What others would call a job, comes as naturally as breathing to Sunitha Tati – the Art of Storytelling. A Telugu film producer, today, she makes movies under her own banner Guru Films, which is a South Indian Studio that tells stories globally.
Her story, however, began with her childhood in Vijayawada, from south of India and her immigration to the US with her family, her degree in business management from George Mason University and PG course in film-making from New York University. Everything led her closer to the stories she would tell, and back to her homeland.
Back to her roots, she started assisting Suresh Babu at the Ramanaidu Studios and understood the in-and-out of the Telugu Film Industry. Slowly carving her own path, she continued to work with him for 4 year in various roles from an Assistant Director to a Co-Director to an Executive Producer, in multiple projects in Telugu and Hindi.
To explore and experience the booming media market, she worked in TV9 (Telugu) during the launch of the first regional News channel in 2004 as a Creative Director/Senior Producer. Post this, she launched the brand Radio Mirchi, across all South Indian states, where she worked as Vice President of Creative Content for both Radio Mirchi and Mirchi Movies.
With more stories brewing in her mind than her cups of coffee, she had to make her way back to the World of Cinema and create her own brand called the Guru Group, which then went on to produce 7 Motion Pictures, 2 Television Series, one Web Series and one Illustration Book, till date and many more brewing in the pipeline in the coming years. .
Her recent Tollywood blockbuster hit Oh Baby, put her drive for unique storytelling on the big screen and made her a producer that everyone in the industry looks up to. Currently, she is producing 3 films this year – one that is being co-produced with Suresh Babu – directed by Sudheer Verma and starring Regina Cassandra and Nivetha Thomas, a Hollywood Production of an acquired popular book called Arrangements of Love by Timeri Murari, and another original motion picture called 13 Days, which will all go on the floor by the end of this year.
